Day 13 - Aussie 2011

This was another travel day for us so there really is not much to say.

We got up, showered, packed, and drove the car up to the Melbourne Airport, going through a transition assistance and career planning book for Nick on the way.  We did have a little bit of a scare because the car said the starter needed servicing and our radio would not turn on either.  We didn’t know if we would be dinged four that or something but they said we were fine when dropping it off.  Phew!

We got to the airport really early – Andrea likes to plan for lots of bad things to happen because, well, they do – so we spent our time shopping and reading and drawing.  The flight to Brisbane was just under two hours and everything went smoothly.

At the airport, we tried to find a cheap way into the city but, after quite a lot of running around asking for help, found there was no public transportation.  So we had to empty our pockets for a train ride in.  It seems pretty lame that the city allows private industries to bank on travelers with no other options to get out of the airport, but oh well.

We found the hostel, arriving at about 7pm, and were put into a room with six beds.  All the occupants seem nice enough, with two from England, a guy from Italy, and some Asian guy I am guessing is from China or Japan.  By the way, while I am thinking about it, it is really odd to hear Asian people speak with an Aussie accent but there are a fair amount of Asians living here doing just that, haha.

Luckily there was a grocery store across the street so we got a few things for our next few days in Brisbane.  Then we came back to the hostel and I have been trying to update this blog!

No plans for our time in Brisbane so we will just go where the wind takes us!

Just a view of Melbourne from the car and then we have the trusty car that took us all along the Great Ocean Road, complete with lots of dirt and bugs!
